Shotover Waste Water Treatment Plant
EIS worked with partner, Downer, to deliver the new Shotover Wastewater Treatment plant to the Queenstown Lakes District Council. EIS was contracted for: electrical design, automation and control design, electrical installation, commissioning, operator training, and maintenance support.
The Shotover Wastewater Treatment project started in 2015 and came into operation in 2017. The plant needed to service a main tourist hub and surrounding towns in Central Otago with a total population of around 30,000.
Project Shotover is one of the largest and most strategic projects undertaken by Queenstown Lakes District Council.
The treatment plant needed to be modern, efficient and state-of-the-art, with features such as a Modified Ludzack-Ettinger bioreactor in conjunction with a clarifier and an ultra-violet (UV) treatment plant at the outlet into the Shotover River.
EIS Electrical & Automation successfully completed the entire electrical, automation and commissioning scope for the plant. The EIS Automation Team also trained the operators and provided maintenance support.
Through robust control system design and the latest automation technology, the operation of the plant is highly efficient and requires minimum operator interaction.
Alarm messaging and remote access was set up which enables remote monitoring of the plant.
EIS achieved a fully automated, state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant, requiring minimum operator interaction and monitoring. The plant also features a SCADA system allowing comprehensive control and monitoring of the plant. Our work on the project earned us the top award at the 2017 Master Electricians Excellence Awards.
