Carbon Bake Furnace 1 MultiPurpose Machines (MPMs)

New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Ltd | Tiwai Point, Southland

EIS was engaged to ensure the design of the new Multipurpose Machines was implemented according to local compliance requirements on behalf of the client. EIS also was engaged to undertake the electrical install and automation of the MPMs and provide commissioning support.  EIS had a complete blank canvas to design and implement the required cableways for the trolley cables which consisted of 296 cables of a variety in size (per Multipurpose Machine)

The installation was in a constrained space and had to provide adequate protection of the cables whilst achieving an aesthetic quality.  EIS demonstrated initiative and quality utilising the skill of metallic conduit bending and fabricating/modifying ladder in order to fit into the constrained spaces.

The trolley platform had to be lifted onto girder rails which in turn caused all the electrical installation to be at four different height levels.  Due to the work mainly being at height additional controls were required and scaffolding was utilised to safeguard the workforce.

Critical quality control work was performed by the EIS team as well as working collaboratively with onsite design changes.
